Drone Owner: Drone Shot Down With Shotgun, Neighbor Says "Don't Spy On My Expletive House"

CAPE MAY, N.J. (CBS) --- The owner of a drone that was shot down at the Jersey Shore is speaking out about the incident.

Last September, Leonard Helbig was flying his quadcopter over a friend's house near the Cape May Canal when he heard a shotgun blast.

Helbig says he was taking photos of the construction on his friend's house, but the people next door had a different view of what was going on.

"Don't spy on my... expletive house," Helbig describes a conversation his neighbors had with him. "Basically accusing me of spying."

Police have charged Russell Percenti, who lives next to that construction site, with criminal mischief.

He answered his door when news crews requested an interview, but said he wouldn't talk without consulting his lawyer.
