Phillies Look To Rebound Against First-Place Mets

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Phillies host the Mets again tonight in game two of this four-game series at Citizens Bank Park.

New York won the opener last night, 16-7, scoring 14 unanswered runs after the Phils jumped out to a 7-2 lead.  The Mets hit a franchise record eight home runs in the game. The win extended New York's lead in National League East to 5 1/2 games over second place Washington and the Mets bring a four-game winning streak into tonight. The Phillies had a three-game winning streak snapped last night and the loss dropped their record to 50-75.  They are tied with Miami for fourth in the NL East.

On the mound for the Phillies in this one will be right-hander Jerome Williams. He is 4-9 this season with a 6.10 ERA. He got lit up in his last start down in Miami, allowing eight runs while getting just five outs in a 9-7 loss to the Marlins.

The Mets will counter with a fine rookie pitcher in right-hander Noah Syndergaard. He is 7-6 this season with a 3.17 ERA.

Here is the lineup for the Phillies against Syndergaard:

1. 2B Cesar Hernandez

2. SS Freddy Galvis

3. CF Odubel Herrera

4. 1B Ryan Howard

5. 3B Andres Blanco

6. LF Cody Asche

7. RF Domonic Brown

8. C Carlos Ruiz

9. P Jerome Williams
