UPDATE: Missing Mushroom Statue In Chester County Returned

By Kristen Johanson

KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. (CBS) - A 108-pound concrete mushroom statue, meant for charity, was taken from the Sunrise Cafe sometime Thursday night into Friday morning.

But after a weekend search, Kennett Square Police say an area resident came up to the police station with the fungi in hand.

"He said it was outside, about a quarter block from his house, in a little field beside a business," says Detective John Trevisan. "He said he saw the news, and realized that was the mushroom that had been taken from the business up in town, and he returned it to us."

Police are still investigating who took the sculpture, and they are looking through surveillance video.

The artistically designed mushroom will be auctioned off at the Mushroom Festival in September.
