Preseason Week 2: Eagles Studs And Duds
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- So, did you order your Super Bowl tickets yet? Just kidding.
Kind of.
After the Eagles' 40-17 walloping of the Ravens on Saturday night, the Birds have outscored their preseason opponents 76-27 in two games. Of course, it's only preseason and we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves, but nevertheless it's exciting.
Duds
3. Eric Rowe
For the second straight game I haven't been impressed with Rowe. Now, he's a rookie. He's just getting started and it's completely unfair to expect dominance from him, but I need three duds in a 40-17 win, so give me a break.
Rowe, once again, looked shaky in coverage and out of position at times. Unlike the first preseason game, Rowe didn't force a fumble to save his day.
2. Jaylen Watkins
Another player fighting for reps in the secondary and another player I'm optimistic about, but Watkins showed off his inability to tackle again on Saturday night.
1. Tim Tebow
2-5 for 13 yards and three carries for 36 yards. On two specific plays, Tebow did not look like an NFL quarterback. Once when he held the ball for three hours and took a sack, and second when he refused to throw it to a wide open WR.
Studs
3. Ryan Mathews
Mathews showed off his explosiveness with a gorgeous 14-yard touchdown run. He continues to impress.
2. Nolan Carroll
While Walter Thurmond got the interception, Nolan Carroll made the play on a deep ball from Joe Flacco to Kamar Aiken. Carroll stayed stride-for-stride with Aiken all the way down the field, got his head around, and deflected the ball into Thurmond's hands. It's the kind of play we haven't seen an Eagles corner make in awhile.
1. Sam Bradford
Of course, I'm going with Sammy B here! It was his first NFL action in one year and he orchestrated an 11-play, 84-yard touchdown drive. Bradford was 3-5 for 35 yards, but more importantly, looked comfortable and moved this offense. Most importantly, however, he bounced back from two massive hits including one from Terrell Suggs on a read-option hand off which Jason Peters called a "cheap shot" and one from Brandon Williams, resulting in a Bradford bloody lip.
