Sixers Host Three Day Basketball Clinic In Camden

By David Madden

CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) -- The Philadelphia 76ers open a three-day clinic for kids Sunday in Camden, where the team is building a state of the art practice facility along the waterfront.

The Kroc Community Center will play host to some 300 kids a day ages 10 to 14.

Sixers Chief Revenue Officer Chris Heck says it's the start of an outreach program, along with the Virtua Health System, in the town where the team will eventually locate its offices and practice facility.

"We thought that this is a nice fit for us moving into Camden down the line and it gave us an opportunity to do something with the children in Camden and then, eventually, spread it out to Philadelphia."

The Kroc Community Center will play host to some 300 kids a day ages 10 to 14.

"They will be eating with us." says Sixers Chief Revenue Officer Chris Heck. "We'll be working with them on basketball skills and we will also be sharing with them Adidas sneakers and Sixers jerseys, basketballs, backpacks, you name it.

The idea is to start a community relationship with the city of Camden, although plans are to expand the outreach to Philadelphia. Particularly once that practice center opens up in about a year or two.
