Police Investigating Report Of Sexual Assault On Golf Course In Overbrook

By Natasha Brown

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are investigating a report of a sexual assault in Philadelphia's Overbrook neighborhood.

"It's a good area, not really too much going on here," said a resident.

Stunned reaction from folks learning of an alleged sexual assault along the Cobbs Creek golf course.

Police say a 39-year-old woman was walking through the course at 7500 Lansdowne Avenue on Friday night at around 8 p.m. The victim told police she was approached by a man who began removing her clothes, and then physically and sexually assaulting her.

"It surprises me because I've never heard of anybody being attacked up here, but like I said, it's dark, so it wouldn't surprise me that it could happen," said another resident.

The Special Victims Unit is still investigating allegations of another assault on the golf course. On Saturday, July 11 at 3:30 a.m.,  a woman walking to work, reported being dragged onto the course and sexually assaulted. There's no confirmation just yet on whether the two cases are linked, but it's enough to ring the alarm of people in the area.

"I wouldn't through here at night, it's too dark with all the bushes," said a resident.

Police do have similar descriptions of suspects in both of these cases. A Hispanic male, mid-30's or so with a muscular build and close cut haircut.  Investigators believe the same man may be responsible for both assaults.

Special Victims Unit Captain John Darby says detectives are looking for any surveillance video.

"Any business that might be close by, they've expanded their search out for blocks just to see if there's any appearance of this male, Darby. "Obviously, that's a needle-in-a-haystack type approach."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Special Victims Unit.
