Police Investigating After Hockey Court Vandalized In Egg Harbor Township

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J., (CBS) -- Egg Harbor Township Police are asking for the public's help after a street hockey court was vandalized -- causing $35,000 worth of damage.

Police say it happened at Veteran's Memorial Park off Ocean Heights Avenue in the Scullville section of the township.

According to police, the damage occurred between 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16 and 5:23 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17.

Police say the damage consisted of the plastic floor decking that covers the entire court being pulled apart, disconnected from the court and rolled up in spots. There are visible tire marks on some of the decking that would indicate a bike, ATV or something similar was being ridden on the court, according to police.

"It's a punch in the gut. Everyone out here is a volunteer that put all this time and effort into trying to make it as good as you can for the kids. So it hurts, it makes you very angry, but at the end of the day, the organization I know will respond, will rebuild it, and will make it as good as new," said Terry Crowley of the Egg Harbor Township Street Hockey Association.

Police say the Egg Harbor Township Street Hockey Association is still evaluating the extent of the damages at this time. The replacement cost for the decking would be about $35,000, according to police.

This incident is under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Egg Harbor Township Criminal Investigation Bureau at 609-926-4051.

Police say they can also Contact Atlantic County Crime Stoppers at 609-652-1234, 1-800-658-8477 (TIPS) or at www.crimestoppersatlantic.com. They say Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards for information leading to arrests and indictments in Atlantic County.
