"Uniforming" Becoming Popular New Trend Among Some Young Professionals

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Some young professionals looking to make life easier are turning to a trend that's slowly becoming known as "uniforming."

In April, Center City resident Rachel Robbins read a Harper's Bazaar article by Matilda Kahl, who wears the same outfit to work everyday, and it struck a chord with her. She says she often wished adults could wear uniforms, so two months ago she chose an outfit, bought four of them and started uniforming.

"I don't think Steve Jobs like made an announcement, 'Hey guys, I think I'm going to wear the same thing everyday!' So I think it's an insecurity of women," Robbins says, "which is totally understandable because we are judged on our appearance so much."

Robbins has been documenting her experiment on Instagram; and while there is photographic evidence that she wears the same dress, she says once she took the leap to uniform, her anxiety about getting dressed disappeared.

"There's a big fear about being judged for what you wear," she says, "and I think no one can tell if you wear the same dress two days in a row, and it's none of their business, either!"

Robbins says not only does she feel less stress, she also spends a lot less money.

She says she wears the same exact dress Monday through Friday, but does not wear a uniform on weekends.
