Little Girl Injured In Northeast Philly Hit-and-Run; Driver Arrested

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Police say a young girl was struck by a vehicle, and the driver then fled the scene on foot Saturday night in Northeast Philadelphia.

It happened around 7 p.m. in the 6600 block of Sylvester Street.

Police say the driver, 27-year-old Mark Edwards, was making a turn off of Magee Avenue onto Large Street when he struck another vehicle. Edwards fled the scene of that crash and turned onto Sylvester Street when he jumped the curb, striking a 6-year-old girl.

Authorities say Edwards continued to drive along the sidewalk, striking three parked cars before exiting his vehicle and fleeing on foot.

The girl was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital in stable condition.

Police say with the help of witnesses they were able to identify and locate Edwards later that night. He was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief, Accident Damage and related offenses.
