NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBS) – The latest Rutgers-Eagleton Poll suggests that most New Jersey voters would like Governor Chris Christie to resign so he can be free to pursue his Presidential ambitions.
The question was split two ways. Half of those asked straight up if Christie should go opted 54-41 for resignation. Assistant poll director Ashley Koning says the other half were asked about a bid now in the legislature that would force Christie, and future governors, to resign to pursue the Presidency:
“The additional information actually flips the numbers. So now we’re actually looking at 45-percent who say that Governor Christie should be forced to resign and 52-percent, a majority in favor of Christie this time, saying that he should be allowed to continue to serve.”
Even if the legislature passed such a measure, Christie would veto it and there would not be enough votes to override that.
Most believe Christie’s constant out-of-state traveling hurts his ability to govern effectively.
Half of those surveyed believe Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno is ready to take over, if she had to.
