Dump Truck Collides With Parked Tractor Trailer On Delaware Roadway

DOVER, D.E., (CBS) -- Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that took place early Thursday morning involving a dump truck and a tractor trailer. The accident took place just before 5:00 a.m.

According to authorities, William L. Underwood, 42, was driving a dump truck loaded with stone on Bay Road near exit 93. Officials say that Underwood drifted into the right shoulder of the road and collided with a tractor trailer that was parked under the overpass.

Authorities add that the tractor trailer was illegally parked at the time and was being operated by Abdulaziz Adjintettey, 33, of Philadelphia who was in the sleeper portion of the truck when the collision took place.

The tractor trailer was pushed approximately 300 feet, according to investigators, into the grass on the westbound side of the road. The dump truck wound up overturned on the driver's side. The rocks loaded into the truck were spilled out into the southbound lanes.

Underwood was transported to Kent General Hospital where he was later released with non-life-threatening injuries. Adjintettey was not injured and was cited for parking in a no stopping, standing of parking zone.

Underwood was cited for inattentive driving.

Bay Road near Exit 93 (Dover Air Force Base Main Gate) was closed for around six hours for the investigation and clean up.
