Police: '24 Shots Were Fired, At Least' In Point Breeze Shooting

By Justin Finch

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Police are investigating a shooting in Point Breeze, when shots fired overnight in the 1800 block of South 30th Street sent residents running for cover.

Police say there could have been many more victims when two dozen shots were fired around midnight.

Several 911 calls led police to a home on South 30th Street where they found two men struck with bullets. A 20-year-old was struck in his foot and lower back, and the second victim, 22, had gunshot wounds in both of his legs.

Police say they were sitting on the front porch of the home just after 11:30pm Tuesday night when shots were fired. They ran inside to escape the gunfire, and police say there were two women inside who narrowly missing the gunfire.

One of those women, police say, is six months pregnant. She was talking with the two men who were struck as the shots were fired.

The second woman says a bullet went by her in the living as she was asleep on the couch.

"We know 24 shots were fired, at least," says Chief Inspector Scott Small, "because we found 24 spent shell casings, all in the 1800 block of South 30th Street. After being shot, both victims ran inside the house and then were subsequently transported to the hospital by private auto."

Police are interviewing both victims and witnesses. The victims are in stable condition at Penn Presbyterian Hospital.

A third man was shot in the hip around 19th and Tasker Streets. Police are treating this case as a triple shooting.
