Beware Of Papal Visit Ticket Scammers

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - An area consumer protection agency is warning of possible ticketing scams to get close to or even meet Pope Francis during his visit to Philadelphia next month.

There are no event tickets for sale for the Papal visit, but Mike Bannon with Consumer Protection/Weight and Measures in Bucks County says scammers will try to tell you otherwise:

"Nobody is going to be able sell you a better seat or maybe a meeting with the Pope personally for any kind of fee on this. You need to be very skeptical if someone approaches you who says they can sell access to the Pope."

Pope Francis' Saturday speech at Independence Hall is one of the locations where a possible ticketing system is being explored by local state and federal authorities because of lack of space.

With more than 1.5 million Papal pilgrims expected in the city, Independence Mall has room for 25,000 - 30,000.
