University City Businesses React To Road Closures During Papal Visit

By Kristen Johanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Parts of West Philadelphia will be closed off to traffic during the Pope's visit in September.

Businesses in University City will have to alter some of their plans for the Papal visit. Streets will be closed to public traffic, which is problematic for hair stylist Alice DeStefano, who works for Saturn Club Salon on Sansom Street. She counts on the weekends to make her income.

"We do have clients that come in from New Jersey and from the suburbs that come in on the weekend to have their hair done, so it's definitely going to affect our business," said DeStefano.

Employees at Doc Magrogan's Oyster House have been preparing for the visit for a few months. General Manager Carlos Castillo says most of his employees live in the area, and they welcome the crowds.

"The beauty for us is that we are in a very good proximity to hotels, so I expect to do many, many reservations on those days, and expect a lot of pedestrian traffic," said Castillo.
