Job Fair Wednesday Seeks Security Guards For Papal Visit

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- A Philadelphia group that links employers with potential employees is holding a job fair tomorrow for a company seeking to hire scores of security guards to work during the Pope's visit to Philadelphia.

Pennsylvania Career Link will host US Security Associates on Wednesday for a job fair. The goal is to hire 100 security guards to help deal with crowds during the World Meeting of Families and the Papal weekend.

"They're not necessarily looking for years of experience, it could be six months or less," says Meredith McCarthy.

McCarthy works for Pennsylvania Career Link in the Philadelphia office, and she says the gig pays $8.00 to $10.00 an hour. The jobs will span about three weeks.

The main requirements are a willingness to deal with crowds with smiles, and the ability to sit and stand for eight hours at a time at stations scattered through the city.

"It's a great way for people to earn income and participate in this very high-profile event," says McCarthy.

And she expects more job opportunities to come.

"There's obviously a lot going on for that event, so we wouldn't be surprised if additional employers come to us with their hiring needs," she says.

The job fair will be held at Career Link's Suburban Station office at 1617 JFK Blvd, Suite 200, in Philadelphia from 9am until noon Wednesday. Please dress professionally and bring a resume.
