Pa. Doctor Accused Of Killing Lion In Same Area As Cecil

By Jan Carabeo

MURRYSVILLE, Pa. (CBS) -- While outrage continues over the death of Cecil the lion, officials in Zimbabwe are investigating whether another lion was killed in the same area by a doctor from Pennsylvania.

The doctor lives and works in the Pittsburgh area. He's also the director of a center at Allegheny General Hospital.

Now, he finds himself as the second American under investigation for allegedly and illegally hunting and killing a lion in Zimbabwe.

Dr. Jan Seski is under investigation. He can be seen in pictures online posing with a number of dead animals, including a zebra, elephant and hippo.

Seski lives in Murrysville, Pennsylvania, less than 20 miles east of Pittsburgh. He works as a gynecologic oncologist and has two private offices in Pittsburgh.

Zimbabwe's National Parks and Wildlife Authority says Seski killed a lion with a bow and arrow in April in the same park where Cecil the lion lived.

Cecil was found dead last month, sparking international outrage at Minneapolis-area dentist Walter Palmer, who is accused of illegally killing the animal outside of the park.

In Seski's case, the owner of the safari company has been arrested. Officials say he was operating without a permit and is now assisting in the investigation.

This investigation is part of an industry-wide crackdown following the death of Cecil. His coalition partner, Jericho the lion, was feared dead this weekend, but Zimbabwe authorities say a research project snapped a photo of Jericho on Sunday morning.

Authorities are now trying to expedite Palmer to face charges. That is not that case at this time for Seski.

For now, Zimbabwe wildlife officials have suspended bow hunting and the hunting of lions, leopards and elephants.
