Philly's Own Jill Scott Debuts At No.1 With New Album
By Michael Cerio
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If you see Jill Scott around the neighborhood, tell her we said congratulations.
The Philadelphia singer lands atop the Billboard chart this week with her fifth album, Woman. This marks her second time in such a position, with her 2011 album The Light Of The Sun also hitting number one.
Woman finds Scott filled with fire as she grooves across styles with confidence. Whether it's slinking along with funk basslines or howling over 60's girl group pop, she's always in front and in control.
According to Billboard, Scott is the first woman to have a number one album since Kelly Clarkson did it back in March. She's also the first female R&B singer to top the chart since Beyonce did it in January of 2014.
