5 Shows To See This August In Philadelphia

By Michael Cerio

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- We're running out of summer. But before the soul-crushing chill of winter returns, there is plenty of live music for you to feast your eyes and ears on. Here are five shows to see in August in and around Philadelphia.

Thursday August 6th – The Pinkprint Tour at Susquehanna Bank Center

There's been a lot of drama surrounding Nicki Minaj and Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill over the past few weeks. Most of it has unfolded on Twitter, a VMA misunderstanding with Taylor Swift and a ghostwriting rap battle with Drake, but partially from the stage of Minaj's Pinkprint Tour. Catch it as it rolls through Camden with Minaj and Mill. Plus, an undercard of hip hop up-and-comers with Rae Sremmurd, Tinashe, and DeJ Loaf. There's sure to be something trending the next morning, as Mill returns home.

Thursday August 13th - Billy Joel at Citizens Bank Park

Last summer Billy Joel came to Citizens Bank Park and checked off all the Philly boxes. Wear a Phillies hat, check. Cover the Rocky theme, check. Sing acapella with Boyz II Men, check. Along the way he tore through over 25 hits. What will he do this year?

Friday August 14th – Motley Crue at Wells Fargo Center

Crue has signed a contract. A "Cessation of Touring Agreement", that says this will definitely be their last tour. They signed a paper, so you know its real right? That being the case, you might want to go see Tommy Lee and his spinning drum kit before it's too late. It's a story for the kids.

Saturday August 15th – Milkboy 4th Anniversary Show at Milkboy

Come for the bar and restaurant downstairs, stay for the music upstairs. Four years ago, the folks from Milkboy Coffee came in from the Main Line and set up shop at 11th and Chestnut in Center City. Since then Milkboy has hosted music from every end of the spectrum, and this month they celebrate their 4th anniversary with three nights of free music headlined by some of Philadelphia's best bands. Check out Flightschool Thursday night, Nick Greeley & The Operators on Friday, and TJ Kong and The Atomic Bomb close it out in style that Saturday.

Thursday August 20th – Jimmy Buffett at Susquehanna Bank Center

Does anything sound like summer more than Jimmy Buffett? At least that's what they say as they spill into Camden each year with tropical print pockets full of Corona caps. Bonus this year, Huey Lewis And The News will serve as an opening act. It's the ultimate summer party which poses the ultimate summer question, "Can I do that with my parents?" Fins up!
