Hearphilly: The Shore Thing - Tattoos, Restaurant Week Part II and Monster Trucks Ride Into Wildwood

By Andrew Kramer

WILDWOOD, N.J. (CBS) - The summer season may be nearing an end, but you would never guess it based on all the events happening in the Wildwoods in August.

John Siciliano with the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Authority says dozens of tattoo related vendors come to town in the middle of the month at the Wildwoods Convention Center:

"They have the most popula artists -- they have New York Ink, Chicago Ink, L.A. Ink -- they have all these great artists that are here and it gives people the oppurtunity that may never be able to get out to New York or L.A. to get a tattoo from these guys."

The Tattoo Expo & Show takes place Aughust 14th-16th.

Hungry? If you missed Wildwoods Restaurant Week in June, it's back again toward the end of August.

"Having this second one just kind of came out of the need to have this second opportunity from people that are here to enjoy the ability to have their prefix menus (appetizers, salad, entrée, dessert) for $30," Siciliano says. "We have a mix od restaurants, between 25-30, that are part of this and they have different kinds of fare."

Restaurant Week round two takes place August 23rd to 28th.

Rolling into town at the end of Restaurant Week is the Monster Truck Beach Nationals...on its new dates, August 28th to 30th.

"They build a track on the beach," explains Siciliano. "It's a gated event. We bring in probably 8-10 different popular trucks that are part of the circuit that goes around the country. They come in and they perform live on the beach. It's pretty cool, it's an outdoor venue."

There's also a section where you can get on a monster truck. That feature is actually offered all summer long.

And if tattoos, food and monster trucks aren't enough, the last weekend in August also features the Sports Card, Toys, Comics & Collectibles Show.

"The same gentleman, RK Sports Promotions, brings in his collections of sports card, toys and comic books," Siciliano says. "You come in and you start to see whether or not you like sports card he has. The collectible show is just a variety of different collectibles and the comic books."

This also takes place the Wildwoods Convention Center. Admission is free and bring some pens, several big names will be in house giving authoghraps.
