Report: Giants Making 'Strong Push' For Hamels

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- You can add the defending champs to the growing list of teams inquiring about Phillies ace Cole Hamels.

FOX Sports' MLB insider Ken Rosenthal is reporting the San Francisco Giants are "making a strong push" for the 31-year-old left-hander, with around $50 million coming off their books after this season.

Hamels, who threw in his first career no-hitter on Saturday, is one of the top talents in the market as Friday's trade deadline looms. The Giants reportedly join the Dodgers, Rangers, Cubs, Yankees, Astros, and Diamondbacks amid the teams interested in Hamels.

Hamels (6-7, 3.64 ERA) is guaranteed $22.5 million over through the 2018 season, with a 2019 player option.
