SEPTA Postpones Announcement On Regional Rail Passes For Papal Visit

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- SEPTA was expected to announce today when Regional Rail transit passes for the Papal visit would be available, but Monday afternoon SEPTA said the announcement has been postponed for later this week.

"SEPTA Press conference previously scheduled to announce details regarding the resumption of sales of One Day Regional Rail Passes for the Papal Visit has been postponed. The announcement will be rescheduled for later this week," said a statement.

"We were going to tell people how those sales were going to resume," said SEPTA's Jerri Williams.

Williams says they need to tie up some loose ends before they lay out their agenda, and they hope to announce that plan later on this week.

"We hadn't explained or told everybody that we were working with what we were doing," said Williams.

Williams adds, even though they delayed their announcement, she's happy about their strategy moving forward.

"I think we have a really good plan that's going to be fair for everyone and is going to convenient for everyone. I'm excited to announce it as soon as we can," said Williams.

Online sales were temporarily suspended last Monday after the mad rush for tickets crashed the website.

SEPTA officials say during its initial roll out, a little over 200 passes were processed, with many online users unable to complete orders in their carts.

When sales resume, the passes—which are time specific—will cost $10 a piece and they're only good for September 26 or 27.

SEPTA will make 175,000 passes available for each day and will give 24-hour notice of the online sales.
