Podcast: Trade Deadline Quickly Approaching For Phillies

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- In something no one could've predicted, the Phillies are actually the hottest team in baseball since the Major League Baseball All-Star Break. They've gone 8-1 in the nine games since the Midsummer Classic and this past weekend they completed a sweep of the Chicago Cubs in what was probably their most entertaining weekend of the season.

Of course the highlight in Chicago was the no-hitter by Cole Hamels on Saturday. Following that up yesterday, rookie right-hander Aaron Nola picked up his first MLB win with 7 2/3 strong innings of work.

Despite this surge, the Phillies still have the worst record in all of baseball (37-63) and the main focus for everyone is really Friday. That's when the MLB non-waiver trade deadline hits at 4pm. The Phillies are expected to be quite active with players like Hamels, closer Jonathan Papelbon and outfielder Ben Revere all on the block.

KYW's Matt Leon spoke with Jake Kaplan of the Philadelphia Inquirer about what he thinks could happen with the Phillies by Friday.
