State Of The Art Movie Theater Helping Revitalize 69th Street In Upper Darby

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) -- Upper Darby's mayor has been devoted to reenergizing a once bustling 69th Street. The opening of the Dallas-based Studio Movie Grill, which has chosen 69th Street as its first location in the entire state, is expected to help restore luster to the historic strip.
Mayor Tom Micozzie has rolled put the red carpet for Studio Movie Grill, which made its debut Friday night. Micozzie says the SMG CEO transformed a shut down theater into a state-of-the-art digital and dining experience.
"He put six million dollars into the building," Micozzie says. "You have the highest quality sound theater and the highest quality visual."
There are nine big screens and 900 reclining seats, pool tables and a bar and lounge where you can grab a bite to eat. And Micozzie stresses the company is committed to safety.
"It has a full security firm in place in their building," the mayor says, "and all times it's open."
SMG joins clothing stores, Ross and newcomer H&M. And the "Hill" is getting ready to welcome a Gap store, which is expected to open in November.
Before then, 69th Street gets serious star power when Ringo Starr rocks the Tower Theater on October 30, the mayor's birthday.
