Porter's Hot Takes: The Real Slim Shady

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's getting bad. Last week I was excited for football, now I need it.

I know, Aaron Nola made his debut this week and he looked fantastic. And I know, the MLB trade deadline is a week away and Cole Hamels and/or Jonathan Papelbon might be on their way out of Philly, but the only thing in sports that gets me truly fired up right now is football-related stuff.

Maybe it's because the Phillies are so bad, or because the Eagles are so intriguing, but I can't help it.

I want---no---I need football.

LeSean McCoy's "female only" Instagram party invite, with Bills logo

Point 1 - How dumb can someone be? Let's be real for a second. Shady is 27-years-old and just signed a five-year contract worth $40 million. Heck, I would want to party with all the girls in the world and my boys too.

But dude, an Instagram invite noting "females only" at a secret location, using the Bills logo? Just text them! Create a Facebook group. Invite your boys and tell them to bring chicks. You're LeSean McCoy, you don't know enough girls? Whoever is running McCoy's life, his "manager" or whoever, has got to be a flat-out moron.

Point 2 - Does any rational Eagles fan miss the team's all-time leader rusher? No, right? McCoy was traded in March, training camp hasn't even started yet, and he's managed to get the same fan base that loved him more than probably any other Eagle over the last six years to literally (sports) hate him. Fans can't wait to boo Shady on December 13th. It says everything you need to know.

Point 3 - All the power to guys like McCoy and DeSean Jackson (see: new reality TV show) who want to live their life and don't care who knows, or what lowly writers (like myself), think. Seriously, I respect that. Their young, their rich, they want to party, and they're really good at football.

But Chip Kelly didn't want players with that mindset---guys that rely on their talent, who aren't dedicated to their craft. That's what he means when he talks about "culture." On the flip side, DeMarco Murray was doing MMA-style workouts with Jay Glazer this summer. So was Zach Ertz. So was Lane Johnson. So was John Moffitt.

These are the two veterans I'm looking for to become stars this season. Ertz is the popular opinion for breakout Eagle, while Graham is one of the biggest under-the-radar Birds heading into 2015-16.

I seriously wouldn't be shocked if we're talking about Ertz and Graham as the team's best two players this time next year. They're young, they're ascending, they're hungry, and they're talented.

A.J. Nola nearly cries on the 94WIP Morning Show

If you didn't hear Aaron Nola's dad A.J. with Angelo this week, you should listen to it. Last question, Angelo asks A.J. what it was like when his son ran out onto the mound to throw his first Major League pitch. A.J. couldn't even speak.

A lot of people like him in writing better than on TV and a lot of people don't like him at all. As a Bill Simmons fan, I'm excited about this move. I'm also enthusiastic about what it says for the future of sports content and digital media content in general.
