Philadelphia's Black Catholics Seek Visibility During World Meeting Of Families

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia's Black Catholic Community is planning to make its presence known during the World Meeting of Families in September.
Deacon Bill Bradley is Director of the Office of Black Catholics for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. He says the city's Black Catholic community want to be visible during the World Meeting of Families. So they're holding a two-day revival September 21 and 22nd at Church of the Gesu at 18th and Girard.
"Its going to give us a chance to enter into the spirit for the week and reflect on God's plan for our families," says Bradley.
He says Black parishes are also planning an African heritage mass, as well as one focused on Ghanaian culture.
"To celebrate the folks who are here from the continent of African and for those who are here from the United States," he says.
As for Papal weekend, Bradley says many Black parishes will hold "watch parties," so seniors, those with small children and others not willing to brave the crowds can share the pope experience.
