Philadelphia Furniture Store Target Of Lawsuit From PA Attorney General Office

By Kim Glovas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Pennsylvania Attorney General's office filed a lawsuit Thursday against a Philadelphia furniture store and its owners. The suit was filed after complaints by consumers who bought furniture which was never received.

The lawsuit was filed against Furniture Sir-Plus and its owners Charles Lederman, Mark Finkelstein and Daniel Roberts. The State Attorney General's office has also frozen the assets and accounting of the company and owners.

Basil Merenda, director of the Consumer Protection Bureau in the AG's office, says dozens of consumers were involved.

"They accepted money from consumers for furniture." says Merenda. "However, they failed to deliver the furniture to consumers, or they failed to provide refunds for the furniture that was not delivered."

Furniture Sir-Plus, which had locations on Lancaster Avenue in Overbrook and Tacony Street in Frankford, consolidated its operations and moved to Chelten Avenue in Germantown.

They also changed the name to King Furniture, but the lawsuit alleges it didn't tell any customers.

The state attorney general is seeking one-thousand dollars for every violation of the Consumer Protection Law, and three-thousand dollars each violation involving a consumer over the age of 60.
