Police ID Man Killed In Accident In New Castle

NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) -- Authorities have identified a man who was killed in an accident on I-495 Thursday morning.

Officials say the deadly accident happened just after 7 a.m. on I-495 southbound just south of US Rt. 13.

Police say Wilbert O. Mable, 35, of Wilmington, was killed when his vehicle overturned and landed upside down on top of another vehicle occupied by a 29-year-old woman and three juveniles.

Authorities say the female in the other vehicle, identified as Michelle Nichols, was taken to Christiana Hospital Trauma Center and admitted with non-life threatening injuries.

Officials say the three juveniles were taken to Christiana Hospital Trauma Center for treatment.

Authorities say a six-year-old and five-year-old were treated for minor injuries and an eight-year-old was transferred to A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children. He was admitted with serious injuries.

Police say the three juveniles were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, but they were not using proper child restraint devices.

I-495 southbound was temporarily closed and traffic was being diverted onto US Rt. 13 for about three and a half hours.

The crash remains under investigation and police say no charges will be filed.
