WMOF Organization Launches Mobile App As Guide For Papal Visit

By Mark Abrams

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Your smartphone can now be your new guide to the upcoming visit of Pope Francis and the World Meeting of Families events in Philadelphia.

The World Meeting of Families organization announced the launch of the "Go Philadelphia" app that will offer a directory of events and things to do when the World Meeting Congress gets underway September 22.

Diane Melley works with IBM, which helped develop the app.

She says it offers features that will make it easy for visitors from out of town, as well as residents who might take part.

"A dynamic, interactive map where each of the events and activities and schedules for the World Meeting of Families have been tagged and you can actually click and then receive directions directly on your iPhone or Android phone."

She adds,"We actually will be live-streaming in eight different languages translations of the Mass with closed-captioning. So, this is a really exciting and unique capability. We really welcome people from all around the world to be able to on their phones to see the Mass in closed-caption in their own native language."

You can follow the entire Mass that day on KYW Newsradio as well as listening to us on your Smartphone's Radio.com app.
