Community Members Discuss Renovation Of Feltonville War Memorial

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Community members in Feltonville gathered to discuss the future renovation of the local war memorial.

Tammy Leigh DeMent, Associate Director of Civic Landscapes at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, says the goal of the community meeting was to help come up with a new design for the Feltonville War Memorial, which will be paid for with a $25,000 PHS neighborhood PlaceMaker Grant.

"We at PHS are really excited to work with this community to help them with this idea that's going to be a really sweet project that will help them be a transformation," said DeMent.

Michael Blackie, facilitator of the One Feltonville community group says community meetings will conclude within about a week.

"And the design will be drawn in the Fall with construction in the Spring."

He hopes these improvements will lead to bigger projects.

"I think this is going to attract a lot of folks to Feltonville and it's not going to just be Feltonville, it's going to be Feltonville the place to be."

The war memorial is located at the Rising Sun, Wyoming and Masher intersection.

"Even though it's not a big piece of property, sometimes a small project can have a big impact," said DeMent.
