New Service Allows Prospective College Students To Showcase Themselves Online

By Ian Bush

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – High school students: are you ready for your close-up? There's a new way to make the case to college admissions officers.

It's called ZeeMee.

"It gives high school students an opportunity to portray who they are in a way in which they're comfortable."

Through video and pictures, says Maureen Mathis. As Assistant Provost for Undergraduate Enrollment at St. Joseph's University, she'll be looking at ZeeMee online profile pages starting with applicants for the fall of 2016.

"There'd still be the application, the essay, the transcript, and they could include a written resume. But their ZeeMee page allows them to introduce themselves in a short video that allows them to talk about who they are and what their passions are. They can show pictures of events they've participated in, or they can include a short video of the activities they've done, so it just brings their resume a bit more to life."

Formalizing what some prospective students already have been doing: including YouTube video links in their applications. There's no cost for students to use ZeeMee, which says Drexel University also has signed up.

Here's a sample page from Narberth, Pa. student Rus Murphy, whose ZeeMee site was part of his successful application to attend Bucknell University in the fall:
