Delaware County SPCA 2016 Calendar Aims To Help Pets Waiting For Adoption

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- You've heard of "catty" models. A cat named Crystal clawed her way into the Delaware County SPCA 2016 calendar.

"She is very stubborn," her owner Trisha Burns said. "She is a new model…. Supermodel, supermodel cat."

Crystal snagged one of the 12 coveted spots and had her very own photo shoot at her owner's Drescher home.

The animals featured in the monthly spots have been adopted from the Delco SPCA.

People can also donate to have their pet's picture on other pages.

The group hopes to raise more than $10,000 from calendar sales and that money will help pets waiting to get adopted.

Justina Calgiano, a representative of the Delaware County SPCA, explained why they picked Crystal. "Crystal is a great representation of senior pets everywhere and she has such a wonderful attitude," she said.

Crystal is 16 years old and was adopted three years ago. Burns added, "She still has so much more to give and she has a lot of life. She has a lot of energy very playful."

Photographer Robert LoConte has volunteered his time for the shoots.

This is his fifth time behind the lens for the calendar.

When asked if he had to choose, would he prefer to shoot cats dogs, he answered, "If I had to pick, I would prefer to shoot dogs."

Eyewitness News Reporter Syma Chowdhry's dog, Hamilton, was chosen to be the face of July, so it was fitting to do the shoot at Independence Hall Sunday afternoon on a hot "dog day" of summer.

LoConte said, "He did pretty good for the heat. He kind of just chilled under the shade.

Chowdhry and her husband adopted Hamilton in 2013 from the DelCo SPCA.

Calgiano said, "Those ears are kind of undeniable." Chowdhry responded, "Yes I know proud Mommy over here."

The shelter rescued him from North Carolina. "Well, Hamilton is so cute and he really represents various dogs we save from the nation," Calgiano added.

Chowdhry named him after Hamilton Street, where CBS3 is located.

The calendar will be on sale this October.

There are a few spots left on the calendar that's open for any pet - whether they were adopted from the shelter or not.
