Police Investigate Attempted Home Invasion In West Mount Airy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are investigating an attempted home invasion in West Mount Airy.

Police say it happened at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 500 block of Burnham Road.

Police say a 32-year-old man was inside of his home when and unknown person knocked on his door. The man opened his door slightly to see who it was.

According to authorities, after opening the door another person appeared. Police say the man immediately shut and locked his door and was able to witness two more offenders join the first two outside of the home on his surveillance camera.

Police say that all four had handguns in their hands and attempted to get into the house, but failed to do so.

No injuries were reported and no property was taken during the incident.

"I felt sick honestly," said a neighbor. "Nothing like this has ever happened before and it's a very safe street, it's part of the reason why I live here. This is shocking."

Police describe the first alleged offender as a black male in his late 20's or early 30's, 5'10", heavy set, wearing a white t-shirt and shorts. Police describe the second alleged offender as a black male in his late 20's or early 30's, 5'10" wearing a heavy t-shirt and shorts.

There are no descriptions for the third and fourth alleged offender in this incident.
