Local Churches Planning Pope Parties For September Visit

By Lynne Adkins

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Local churches are planning Pope parties so worshippers can enjoy the message without any of the inconvenience.

Putting up with the hassles of getting to the Parkway for the Pope's mass in September may be too much for many, so worshippers at St. Catherine of Siena in Horsham are planning a party to enjoy the spectacle with ease in the suburbs.

Joshua Jenkins, parish services director said it all starts after mass with a tailgating party.

"They'll have the opportunity to bring food, bring grills, cook out, socialize and hang out for a while," said Jenkins, "we're gonna have a Christian rock band outside, after a couple of hours we'll go down to the hall and have screens set up.

He says it will be easy to get to, comfortable and there won't be a bad seat in the house.

"After all it is the world meeting of families and we are a church family." Said Jenkins. "I think it really caps the week off in spectacular fashion to come celebrate it with our church family rather than just being at home or alone."
