Construction At South Jersey Retail Outlet Center Enters Home Stretch

By Mike DeNardo

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) — The region's newest outlet shopping center is taking shape in South Jersey.

It's still very much a construction site at the Gloucester Premium Outlets off of Route 42 in Gloucester Township.

But General manager Kristen Murdica says the center, featuring 90 retailers, is on track to open in one month.

"We've been dealing through the snow, through the rain, through the ice," says Murdica, "And luckily we have some great workers and we're scheduled for August 13th."

300 workers have been on the job since groundbreaking last August.

Most of the structures at the Gloucester Premium Outlets are built.

300 construction workers are busy installing concrete walkways, plumbing and electrical work before the 90 retailers can move into their new digs.

Murdica says in addition to the outlet stores, the Simon property will provide a place for people to meet.

"We actually have a special feature." says Muridca. "We call it our town square.  It's very wide and open-aired. That's our number-one priority is to make our shopping center a destination for people."

The design includes a town square with outdoor fire pits, and an indoor media center with flat screen TVs.

The final list of retailers at the Simon property includes Old Navy, Jos. A. Bank, Reebok and Jockey.

After the grand opening August 13th, the center is expected to provide 800 full and part time jobs.
