By Mike Dougherty

Camden, N.J. (CBS) -- Camden County police say metro officers made their 100th overdose save using Narcan this week.

Officers found a 21-year-old Delran man unconscious and turning blue in the driver's seat of his car. He came to after a dose of Narcan.

"We are guardians as well." said Captain Gabriel Camacho. "There is no way to arrest ourselves out of this situation."

Camacho said the inconsistency of street drugs takes many users by surprise which leads to the overdoses.

"They tend to have the attraction of what they hear as a pure version of heroin and unfortunately it's a tragic attraction to it." said Camacho.

More than eighty-percent of those saved have been from neighboring towns, people who came to Camden to get their fix.

"These are individuals who are making poor decisions at this time because of these addictions."
