Philly Police: Teen Allegedly Throws Hand Sanitizer On Boy, Lights Him On Fire

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia Police are investigating after they say a 17-year-old allegedly threw hand sanitizer on an 11-year-old boy, then lit him on fire with a cigarette lighter.

Around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, police say they were flagged down in reference to an alleged incident that happened earlier that night at 60th Street and Hazel Avenue.

Authorities say the victim told police that the alleged offender threw hand sanitizer on his body, then placed a cigarette lighter to the area, causing him to catch on fire.

Police say the victim suffered 2nd degree burns to the left side of his body. He was taken to Mercy Hospital for treatment.

"I was appalled.  I was appalled that anyone could even do this," said the boy's mother.

Around 8:15 p.m., police say officers located the alleged offender in the area of 600 S. 59th Street.

Police say 17-year-old Rayfiq Tiggle is charged with Aggravated Assault, Arson, Possessing An Instrument of Crime, Simple Assault, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.

Authorities say his bail has been set at $100,000.
