Judge Cites Allen Iverson Practice Rant In Redskins Trademark Ruling

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Allen Iverson practice rant pops up in a lot of interesting walks of life. Not sure Federal Court is one of the areas where it comes up a lot, but it did on Wednesday.
Judge Gerald Bruce Lee handed down an important ruling on Wednesday regarding the Redskins' trademarks. The court confirmed the cancellation of several of the team's trademarks according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
The cancellation of the trademarks does not mean the Redskins can no longer use their name or logo. In fact, the Redskins can use both in commercial ways and still defend the usage to a degree. It merely means that certain Redskins trademarks will not have federal protection.
Judge Lee felt the need to clarify this in his ruling and quoted Iverson to make his point.
"Just as Allen Iverson once reminded the media that they were wasting time at the end of the Philadelphia 76ers season 'talking about practice,' and not an actual professional basketball game, the Court is similarly compelled to highlight what is at issue in this case - trademark registration, not the trademarks themselves."
For all of you who were previously confused about the ruling, you have Iverson to thank for the clarification.
