Pre-4th Street Fair in Old City Brings Food and Music to Independence Mall

By Marcy Norton

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The holiday celebrations are underway in the Old City section of Philadelphia, where the "Liberty Block Party" runs until 8:30pm tonight.

The smell of sizzling sausages and cheese steaks emanated from brightly colored food trucks as lively music drew hundreds and hundreds of holiday revelers to the free party, on Fifth and Sixth Streets, between Market and Chestnut, along Independence Mall.

The streets are lined with food vendors offering everything from pita sandwiches to ice cream to dim sum to red-white-and-blue pound cakes.

Visitors are enjoying their food to a sound track of live music from three stages.  Other entertainment includes local dance troupes.

The block party is part of the Wawa Welcome America celebration, which runs through July 4th.
