"Just loving it. it's such a great feeling of being here with freedom, it's wonderful," said Kathy Shevlin.

The Shevlin's came all the way from San Diego.

"Saw the Phillies game last night, saw the fireworks, jut walking around here all day today," said David Shevlin.

Many have come from near and far and after months of preparation and days of set up, festivities are underway.

"We've been on tour for seven days now, we're doing a nine-day historical tour," said Carrie Alvarez.

Carrie Alvarez came with a bus of 60 others all the way from Miami.

"Like always, it's the place to be," said Alvarez.

Wawa's Welcome America events kicked off with the Liberty Block Party on Independence Mall. There was lots of music, food trucks and stands with festive food like this red, white and blue pound cake.

"It's a beautiful day out here today, not too humid which is lovely," said Cheryl Maddox.

Meanwhile workers are getting the stage set for The Philly Pops! concert at 8 p.m. on Independence Mall. Saturday the party continues on the Parkway where a crowd of several hundred thousand are expected. The main stage is set in Eakins Oval for a free concert headlined by Philadelphia's own The Roots. Then the weekend culminates with the grand finale, a spectacular fireworks show over the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
