Monroe Township Community Mourns Teen With Candlelight Vigil

By David Spunt

MONROE Twp., N.J., (CBS) -- More than 300 people gathered in the middle of the Williamstown High School football field to remember Darius Boyer, 17, who died on Wednesday.

Boyer was swimming in a Monroe Township quarry, but never resurfaced.

"He always had a smile on his face with everything he did," close friend Tom Sprenger told Eyewitness News.

Authorities pulled his body from the water almost 24 hours after friends reported him missing.

"This will take a long time for this community to recover, Jeffrey Simpler with the Monroe Township School Board said.

According to police, Boyer was swimming with three friends when he went under. Authorities have ruled Boyer's death an accident and do not suspect foul play.
