Security Concerns Prompt Heavy Law Enforcement Presence For Holiday

By David Spunt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Authorities across the country are ramping up security heading into the holiday weekend. Last Friday, the FBI and Department of Homeland Security issued a bulletin, warning citizens about possible attacks.

"There are no specific threats targeting any location," Supervisory Special Agent J.J. Klaver with the FBI in Philadelphia told Eyewitness News on Wednesday.

Klaver did say there would be an increase in law enforcement over the next several days.

"There are groups that want to target our nation's critical infrastructure and symbolic locations," Klaver said.

Tourists packed Independence Mall on Wednesday and many say they are aware of the threat, but will continue to enjoy the holiday.

"Am I going to go hide in my house and lock my doors and pull down my shades? No.  I'm not going to do that because life is worth living," Kate Baker told Eyewitness News.

Authorities won't say how many officers, uniformed and undercover, will be in the area.  If anyone sees anything suspicious, Klaver said to call police.
