Weekend Box Office Report: Closer Race, But 'Jurassic World' Stomps Competition Again

By Bill Wine

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It was a close race at the box office on this summer weekend, but Jurassic World made it three weekends in a row at the top.

The Jurassic Park sequel -- franchise installment number four -- earned an estimated $54 -million on its third weekend of release, becoming the fastest movie ever to pass the $500-million mark.

The animated comedy, Inside Out, was, for the second straight weekend, an impressive runner-up, a very close second with $52-million as it approaches the $200-million mark.

The weekend's two new releases claimed the next two spots. The comedy sequel, Ted 2, featuring Mark Wahlberg and the voice of director Seth MacFarlane, was third with $33-million. And the new dog drama, Max, placed fourth with $12-million.

Overall, industry-wide totals were on par with those of a year ago, but were a far cry from the big numbers of the last two weekends.
