Cleanup Continues In South Jersey Following Last Week's Storm

By Diana Rocco

SEWELL, N.J., (CBS) -- Cleanup is in full swing for most of South Jersey and while power has been restored to most after last Tuesday's storm, it's been several days and hundreds are still waiting in the dark.

"It's really getting old, and especially with my neighbors getting electric on two days ago," said Diane Wagner.

Diane Wagner is in Gibbstown where the last few customers got power back Monday, but her cleanup is far from over.

"I lost eight trees and I lost the roof off my house, it took the gutter off the back," said Wagner.

"It's been like going back in time, you know we're just trying to get by with no electric," said a resident.

Across Gloucester County generators have been running on overtime. On Heritage Road in Sewell the damage is widespread -- utility poles are down and so are the power lines with dozens of trees. Evidence of the cleanup is in front of every home, but patience is running out.

"We haven't seen many trucks on the road," said Anthony DeSimone.

Anthony DeSimone and his wife have been calling AC Electric every day. They have a downed pole and transformer at the end of their driveway and they're hoping by Tuesday they'll finally see progress.

"But it's been pretty tough. There's a lot of utilities we don't have, our pool's turning green," said DeSimone.

In East Greenwich Township, the Harmony Road intersection has finally been cleared after hanging lines and poles shut the 295 on-ramp for nearly a week. Burger King and Shop Rite are still running off generator power as crews from all over continue to work around the clock.
