PATCO To Capitalize On Advertising During Pope's Visit

By Mike DeNardo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With what could be unprecedented ridership during the Pope's visit, PATCO is looking to balance its extra expenses with the opportunity for higher revenue.

About one hundred thousand people are expected to ride the Speedline each day when the Pope is here, that's about triple the usual ridership.

Board chair Ryan Boyer says the DRPA is looking to take advantage of those extra eyes.

"Our advertising consultant, Titan, they know -- they understand the ridership that we're going to have." said Boyer. "And we're going to have a collaborative effort with them to try to maximize revenues during that period of time."

Boyer says that may take the form of more, or more expensive, station and train advertising.

"Additional signage, maybe for that period upping the signage fee -- you know, the licensure fee."

Boyer says it's too early to estimate how much more revenue could result.
