Firefly 2015: Echosmith

By Michael Cerio

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's been quite a few weeks for the four siblings that make up the band Echosmith. This weekend the "Cool Kids" singers played to a sea of fans at Firefly Music Festival, and earlier in the month they were selected to open the campaign kickoff rally for presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

"That was really a surprise. We got an email that was like, hey Hillary Clinton wants you guys to play something." says 19-year-old bass player Noah. "We met her and she's like, I really like Cool Kids. So she likes Cool Kids, she wants to be like the cool kids I guess, so that's fine."

When it came time for the band to meet former President Bill Clinton, Noah was slightly unprepared.

"I just said, hi. Thank you. What do you say? What do you say to a President when you meet them? Like, good job?"

Noah was only five-years-old when Clinton left office.

The oldest member of Echosmith is guitarist Jamie, who is currently 22-years-old.

The family band grew up in a music household and began at a very young age, working their way through shows in Los Angeles. They played everything from a loading dock to a Chick-Fil-A.

"We just wanted to play anywhere. So literally we just asked Chick-Fil-A. We wanted to get paid in chicken; it was kind of a sneaky way to do it. We got paid in those giant platters. It was the greatest thing ever."

Echosmith no longer plays for nuggets. They now warm up the crowd for presidential hopefuls and rock legends, with Morrissey and Paul McCartney closing out their day at Firefly. They were even the surprise guest at the Taylor Swift concert in Philadelphia on June 12.

"That's a pretty big deal." says Noah. "Today is going to a pretty huge deal. I'm so excited."
