SEPTA Regional Rail Line Reopens After Train Strikes Car In Delco

Nether Providence Twp. (CBS) -- A SEPTA regional rail train struck a car and trapped the driver in Delaware County Saturday afternoon.

A SEPTA spokeswoman says it happened around 2:45, near the Wallingford station, when an outbound train slammed into the car on a grade crossing.

The driver, identified as Robert W. Leach, 90, was transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition on Tuesday, June 23.

Thirty-seven people, including the crew, were on the train at the time of the crash. None of them were hurt.

SEPTA's regional rail suspended the Media/Elwyn line due to police activity near Wallingford Station during the investigation, but service has been restored.

An investigation into the accident continues.
