Smartphone App Promises Answers To Young Adults' Sexual Health Questions

By Ian Bush

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- When it comes to sexual health, teens and young adults have questions -- and a smartphone app promises answers. It's designed by a Philadelphia non-profit.

"I'm worried about this rash I have on my private parts; where can I get tested? What do I need to do?"

From STDs to puberty, pregnancy to sexual orientation and gender identity:

"They need to have a trusted source of information."

And a spot free of stigma, says Brian Green, the director of program development at AccessMatters. They're behind the It Matters app for iPhone and Android.

"To provide accurate and confidential information and answers to questions they have about sexual reproductive health issues as well as to provide them an actual locator for finding a health center or other services they need."

Green says it's an important outreach to teens and young adults from lower-income families who increasingly get online solely by phone and not PC.

AccessMatters is testing the app with 14- to 24-year-olds, with an eye on a fall release.
