Croydon Man Rearrested as DUI Fugitive After Serving Time on Another DUI in Maryland

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A Bucks County man who was wanted for skipping out on his DUI trial last year is back behind bars in Montgomery County, Pa.
The county sheriff's office learned of his whereabouts following his release from a prison in Maryland, after serving time for his part in a fatal DUI down there.
The Montco sheriff's office was tipped off to the release of 34-year-old John Monacelli by Kent County Prison, in Maryland, from where he was released earlier this month after serving time for his part in a DUI crash that killed a retired state trooper.
Monacelli was rounded up at his home, in Croydon, Pa.
The Maryland crash happened just over a month after Monacelli was stopped in Montgomery County, Pa. with a blood-alcohol level of .19 (more the twice the legal limit for driving) and Xanax in his system.
"There has to be a better way than to let these individuals continue to drive with multiple cases -– multiple DUI cases," notes Montgomery County sheriff Russell Bono.
In the fatal crash in Maryland, Monacelli let a drunk drive his car because that other man's car was equipped with an ignition interlock system that prevents the car from starting if alcohol is detected.
Monacelli was a passenger in his own car when it crashed into a building, killing Phillip Patrick Nolan Jr.
Monacelli was convicted in Maryland of permitting another to drive impaired, making a false statement to police, failure to report the crash to the nearest police, and failure to remain at the scene of an accident.
