Firefly 2015: The Griswolds

By Michael Cerio

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Chris Whitehall is the lead singer of the Australian band The Griswolds, and he has a word of advice for the bands playing Firefly Music Festival this weekend in Dover, DE.

"Don't do drugs on stage, even if people hand them to you, to do on stage. Someone handed me a little doob, and I did it. No one yelled at us, but the rest of the show was a bit more relaxed after that point."

Although life moved slower for Whitehall on stage that day, things have been happening quite quickly for The Griswolds as a whole.

In the time since their appearance at Firefly last summer, they have released their debut album Be Impressive and toured the world. Speaking before their show at Milkboy in Philadelphia, Whitehall described the experience.

"It really doesn't get much more fun than that. Kind of seeing the world playing music that we wrote ourselves, and it's a really cool feeling."

The Griswolds return to The Woodlands of Dover this weekend at the Firefly Music Festival with a set on Saturday at 2:15 p.m.

As for the name, it is from the National Lampoon Vacation films that you think it's from. Whitehall counts Christmas Vacation as the best of the series, but someone in the band hasn't even seen them.

"I've actually not seen any of them" says Griswolds drummer Lachlan West who joined the band after the name had been created. "I'm horribly lazy. Even if it's watching movies, I just refuse to do it."
