Patco Now Accepts Credit Cards For Fares From Casual Riders

By Mike DeNardo

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- It's something casual Patco riders have longed for: the ability to buy tickets with plastic.

As of this morning, they can.

Until now, occasional Patco riders had to pay with cash at the ticket machines, and they'd get their change back in dollar coins.

But no more.  Patco this morning launched the ability for riders to pay with credit and debit cards. That's something DRPA board chair Ryan Boyer says the casual traveler will like.

"The customers are ecstatic," he told KYW Newsradio this morning.  "They don't have to have those dollar coins, and they don't have to carry cash.  Sometimes the machines don't work, you know, your cash is wrinkled.  It was  just... it was a hassle."

Regular commuters have had the capability to use credit or debit cards to buy Patco "Freedom Cards," the reusable smart cards, but now casual riders can do it too.
